Horizontal forehead wrinkles are one of the most common indications for botulinum toxin injection. The main muscle causing the horizontal forehead wrinkles is the frontalis muscle. The botulinum toxin is usually injected over the forehead 2cm above the orbital rim, and is injected at multiple regularly spaced points, so as to reduce the movement of frontalis muscle. Higher doses of botulinum toxin may be needed in men than in women. The main potential side effect of botulinum toxin injection is the brow ptosis. Sometimes, if the external part of the frontalis muscle is not treated properly, there will be unnatural elevation of the lateral part of the eyebrow.
